Adaptive Music Teaching Artist

CMSS’ Adaptive Music Program (AMP) was founded in 2016 to meet the needs of disabled students with high support needs in the Springfield community. Music is a proven and effective tool for unlocking learning potential in students with disabilities, however, in both Springfield and the entire country, music education has yet to become a universal component of a child’s education. Each Teaching Artist will be scheduled to provide adaptive music instruction at school and adult day program placements that last for the duration of the school year. Teach adaptive music classes designed to engage all learners in AMP partner schools during the school year using a variety of activity formats and musical content, with responsiveness to individual student needs Thoughtfully prepare weekly lessons and plans for each class Communicate and work closely with partner school staff to accomplish individual student goals, classroom goals and AMP program goals Attend and arrive on time for all classes, AMP team meetings, and trainings/workshops or provide advance notice of absence As a representative of CMSS, demonstrate respect and compassion in interactions with partner school teachers, staff and administrators Communicate with AMP Manager about progress at each school site and any challenges that may arise Respond promptly to communications and requests from AMP Manager, CMSS administrative staff, or other faculty Professional development workshops and staff meetings will be paid at $30 per hour.
