Job Description

Actively involved in planning, organizing and implementing all aspects of a successful collegiate athletic band program; supervises contracted band staff and instructs student leadership to achieve that goal. In this role, the successful candidate will assist with direction of the Tulane University Marching Band (TUMB) including significant drill writing and music arranging responsibilities, direct the Tulane "Soundwave" Pep Band for volleyball and men's and women's basketball games, coordinate and supervise student travel for conference and NCAA tournament travel, possibly serve as the assistant conductor of the spring Concert Band depending on qualifications and program needs, and assist recruitment efforts in collaboration with band colleagues, the department of music, and the office of admissions. Represents Tulane Bands and Tulane University to internal and external constituents and communities at a high level, meeting the public well.

Responsibilities Proficiency in designing and implementing marching band presentations. Proficiency and experience as an instructor and performer of band wind instruments. Experience conducting and rehearsing large instrumental ensembles. Appreciation for, and demonstrated understanding of, a university marching band environment, and its relational dynamics within the university and broader communities. Expert knowledge of drill writing, music notation, and music production software. Demonstration of excellent organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills. Proficiency with a wide range of computer software for general administrative and communications applications. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies: co-workers, university faculty, staff students, alumni, parents, volunteers, community partner agencies, clients and vendors. Ability to work evenings and weekends, and travel as needed.Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in music education or conducting Two years of experience teaching instrumental music at secondary and/or college level.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate (ABD considered) in music education (EdD or PhD), or conducting (DM, DMA). Successful experience teaching in higher education (as graduate assistant, staff, or faculty). Performance experience in a wide variety of settings, including collegiate marching band. Experience as an adjudicator, clinician, and/or recruiter with school bands and festivals. Knowledge of, and experience with, New Orleans musical traditions and performance styles.About Us
