Assistant Professor & Director Of Bands/Music Education

Position: Assistant Professor of Music – Director of Music Education/Director of Bands (Tenure‑Track, Full‑Time) – Start Date: August 2026.

Position Details

The Music Department within the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa seeks a full‑time tenure‑track faculty member to begin in August 2026.

Responsibilities
• Instruction and coordination for the university‑level music education program.
• Direct the wind ensemble and provide essential leadership for the wind and percussion areas.
• Fulfill other departmental instructional needs, including general education music courses, music theory, instrumental methods, and/or applied music lessons as required by department needs.
• Participate in recruitment and outreach activities on and off campus (e.g., summer camps, clinics, All‑County and Honor Band conducting engagements).
• Engage in instructional activities that support the department’s teaching mission and student success.

Minimum Qualifications
• Terminal degree in Music (Master’s or Doctoral degree in music education K‑12).
• Degree in instrumental conducting or equivalent professional experience.
• At least three years of successful, relevant pre‑kindergarten through grade 12 teaching, student services, or school administration experience.
• Specialized training in clinical supervision for instruction and supervision of preservice field‑experience courses and internships.
• Demonstrated success as a band director.

Preferred Qualifications
• Commitment to conducting at a high level (invited engagements, participation in masterclasses, professional conducting experience).
• Record of teaching experience at the college level.
• Evidence of and/or commitment to outreach and recruitment activities.
• ABD or doctoral degree in instrumental conducting or music education K‑12.
