Arts and Media(CAM) at the University of Montana (UM) invites qualified applicants for a full-time tenure-track appointment asAssistant Professorin Composition and Theory beginning August 2023. This position will provide curricular oversight in the sequenced courses in music theory, sequenced courses in aural skills, as well as courses in composition and applied composition. Candidates from diverse perspectives and backgrounds are valued and strongly encouraged to apply.The successful candidate will serve as Head of Composition and Theory.Assigned duties:Develop curriculum for undergraduate and graduate composition program.Develop curriculum for Theory courses in consultation with core theory faculty (theory, aural skills, keyboard skills), assist the School of Music Director in determining faculty assignments for theory program instruction.Serve as primary instructor for applied composition and composition courses for the undergraduate and graduate composition program.Serve as primary academic advisor for composition majors.Maintain an active, creative research profile/record of artistic achievement and establish growing recognition in the field by participating in showcases, conferences, or symposiums locally, regionally, nationally, or internationally by highlighting immersive and interactive work from diverse backgrounds.Teach a mix of courses totaling 18 credits per year.Develop and implement new courses related to their area of expertise focusing on inclusiveness.Contribute to the curricular assessment and ongoing development at the course and program levels.Mentor underserved students and take an active role in undergraduate faculty advising.Willingness to mentor individual graduate students in the Media Arts MFA program and develop and deliver graduate-level courses.Participate in service to the Program, School, College, University, and field.Required Qualifications:Must have a Ph.D. in Music Composition and Theory or a D.M.A.
