ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC, THEATRE & DANCE. Duties: Teach undergraduate courses in P-5 general music methods and graduate courses in areas of expertise. Supervise student teaching and fieldwork experiences in local schools. Advise graduate research projects. The faculty member will be expected to (a) demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds, (b) recruit and retain students of exceptional promise, and (c) develop and maintain a visible national and international profile as a scholar and pedagogue. The faculty member will also be expected to participate in faculty governance, attend faculty meetings, and serve on faculty and university committees as appropriate.
### Qualifications
Required: Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in music education and have at least four years of full-time P–12 school music teaching experience. They must have professional preparation in one or more general music pedagogies, such as Kodály, Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Music Learning Theory, popular music pedagogies, world music pedagogies, or creative music making. Candidates must also have university-level experience teaching undergraduate music education courses and evidence of effective teaching, including strong course design, pedagogical innovation, mentoring, assessment practices, or demonstrated impact on student learning. Candidates must have demonstrated ability to empower, advocate for, and value a broad range of students of varied identities and experiences, as shown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities. Candidates will have a demonstrated ability to teach graduate music education courses, guide graduate student research using multiple methodological approaches, and pursue a compelling scholarly trajectory characterized by significant quality, coherence, originality, and potential for a sustained contribution to music education scholarship.
Preferred: Preferred candidates will have experience working in early childhood settings and with early childhood educators, as well as evidence of effective teaching in graduate music education courses and successfully guiding graduate student research. Additional preferred qualifications include a record of publications and presentations in music education venues; evidence of impactful community engagement in music education through partnerships, outreach, or collaborative initiatives; and experience teaching in an additional area of P–12 music education, such as band, strings, choir, or secondary general music.
