### Description
The Connecticut College Department of Music invites applications for an assistant teaching professor specializing in music technology to begin July 1, 2027. We seek a dynamic colleague with a broad understanding of music technology who values the role of music technology within a liberal arts setting. A completed PhD or DMA in music technology, composition, or a related field, along with college-level teaching experience, is expected at time of appointment; exceptional candidates who are ABD may be considered. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about working with undergraduate students, will have a record of successful teaching at the college level, will have experience in the design and maintenance of recording facilities, will have experience in the technical direction of concerts, will be eager to contribute both to the major in Music, Sound, and Technology and to the department’s broader curriculum and holistic educational mission, and will engage in cross-departmental collaborations. Teaching responsibilities will include courses that address acoustics, digital music production, sound recording and engineering, and spatial audio. The ability to contribute to other areas of the curriculum that reflect the candidate's area of specialization is desirable, such as humanities-based or interdisciplinary courses, composing music for the moving image, composing in popular idioms, or music theory. Two course equivalencies per year will entail studio maintenance and design, as well as offering technical support and direction for our departmental concerts and recitals, including training and supervising students.
Teaching professors are voting members of the faculty and vital contributors to their departments. Their teaching load is 3/3. Assistant teaching professor appointments begin with a two-year period; upon successful reviews, they are reappointed for a four-year period. On successful review during the sixth year, the assistant teaching professor is reappointed for a six-year period and may be promoted to the rank of associate teaching professor. Teaching Professors are eligible to apply for College funding to support study, research and travel.
