St. Luke’s is a diverse, large, and vibrant downtown parish known for an awareness and commitment to the marginalized in the City of Atlanta, and possessing a music program of extraordinary excellence. St. Luke's is honored to have hosted the 2024-25 Gerre Hancock Intern in Church Music. St. Luke's Royal School of Church Music-affiliated Chorister program totals 65 children and youth, and the Adult Choir totals 45, including 11 professional staff singers. The candidate will assist in organ playing for the liturgical year, except for such time off as outlined in the Letter of Agreement; prepare accompaniments, hymns, psalms, service music, and voluntaries for choral services and concerts; attend weekly staff meeting; accompany weekly Schola and Adult Choir rehearsals; assist conducting choirs as needed; annually present one full-length recital on the Alston Memorial Organ; assist in overseeing the maintenance of the Choral Library; maintain a log of organ maintenance for the Alston Memorial Organ; submit materials for service leaflets in a timely manner; as needed, serve as a substitute for the Director of Music at weddings and funerals (additional compensation is offered for weddings and funerals); assist in the organization of the Music at St. Luke’s Series; maintain a collaborative and engaging presence as a full-time member of St. Luke’s professional staff. Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree in organ performance or sacred music (with organ as primary instrument); possess an advanced level of proficiency in organ repertoire and choral accompaniment; demonstrate proficiency in sight-reading; possess good oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills; be committed to ongoing professional development
