The Audiation & Movement Instructor leads engaging, student-centered classes that build foundational musicianship for students in grades 1–12 on Saturday mornings. Through a dynamic combination of singing, rhythm work, music theory, percussion, composition, and movement-based activities students grow as musicians. Rooted in the concept of audiation, the ability to hear and understand music internally, this role helps students develop the skills necessary to think, create, and respond musically with confidence at every stage of their development.
Instruction is highly interactive and developmentally responsive, adapting content and pacing to meet the needs of a wide age range. Students explore steady beat, rhythm patterns, pitch relationships, improvisation, and creative expression through body movement, classroom percussion, vocal work, and collaborative exercises. Lessons are designed to support multiple learning styles while fostering creativity, focus, and ensemble awareness.
This class serves as a core support for YMA’s Modern Rock Band and Orchestra programs by strengthening rhythmic accuracy, listening skills, music literacy, and overall musical independence. The instructor intentionally connects concepts from Audiation & Movement to repertoire and skills students encounter in their ensemble classes.
The ideal candidate is energetic, creative, and comfortable leading movement-based instruction across a wide age span, with a strong understanding of music learning theory and/or experience teaching foundational music skills to diverse groups of students.
