Band Instructor

Location: Chatham | Chicago, IL Hourly Rate: $30–$40/hour (based on experience) Schedule: Part-Time | Weekday Afternoons & Occasional Saturdays We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Band Instructor (with a focus on percussion) to join our arts and enrichment programming. If you’re passionate about music and believe in the power of rhythm to heal and transform, we want to hear from you. • Lead youth-centered drumline and percussion instruction, both individual and group-based • Facilitate ensemble sessions, preparing youth for performances and public events • Integrate diverse musical traditions (e.g., African drumming, Latin percussion, hip-hop rhythms) • Foster musical skills while supporting emotional growth and teamwork • Adapt lesson plans to meet youth at various skill levels, from beginners to experienced musicians • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to align programming with Lifescore’s mission • Manage equipment and maintain an organized, inspiring classroom environment • Encourage creativity, discipline, and self-expression through structured music education • Promote respect, consistency, and accountability in all interactions with youth • Skilled percussionist with experience teaching youth or leading band programs • Builder mindset—willing to help shape a growing music initiative from the ground up • Open to feedback and committed to continuous improvement • Proactive, flexible, and solutions-oriented in a fast-paced nonprofit setting • Passionate about working with diverse populations and fostering inclusion • Comfortable managing a classroom and engaging youth with trauma-informed care • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required • Additional instrument experience or knowledge of marching/concert band setups is a bonus
