About The Opportunity

The Flint School of Performing Arts (FSPA) is looking for a driven, dedicated, and enthusiastic Cello Instructor. Under the direction of the FSPA String Department Chair, the Cello Instructor teaches theatre-focused classes for all ages from beginning through advanced levels.

Instruction and Mentorship

Guide students using a variety of teaching methods and materials that foster growth and creative exploration.Provide expert music instruction, including demonstration during lessons.Ensure students are performance-ready and understand the process of translating practice work into a public presentation.Establish a good rapport with students and families, encouraging open discussion.AdministrativeManage logistics, including but not limited to: communication with FSPA office staff, lesson scheduling, registration, and regular communication with students and families.Adhere to all FIM policies and procedures set forth.

Community Building

Foster an inclusive, student-centered environment that supports risk-taking, mutual respect, and creative expression.Support outreach and communication efforts to help raise awareness, engage new participants, and connect the work of the Flint School of Performing Arts to the broader community.Model curiosity, openness, and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in the field and related teaching experience preferredExperience teaching diverse styles of music preferredStrong interpersonal skillsEffective communication skills
