Direct the Shades of Praise choir for Mass at St. Therese Catholic Church.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with the Pastoral Leader, staff and consultative bodies in implementing the mission of the parish.
Directs the Shades of Praise choir of the parish. Recruits, trains and supports parish ministers of music, including the cantor/leaders of song, and choral groups. Schedules practices and assure that accompanists and music are available.
Assures that appropriate and quality music is provided for parish liturgies. Selects music, recruits and schedules choir members and musicians for Sunday Mass and other major parish liturgical celebrations.
Collaborates with the Director of Music and other parish family choir directors for parish family Masses, including Holy Days of Obligation, Easter Vigil, Christmas, etc. This includes collaboration with St. Joseph Parish.
Selects and develops worship aids for the assembly to encourage full, active, and conscious participation through singing.
Maintains music materials, song books, and sheet music as needed.
Assists in preparing and managing the music budget for the Shades of Praise choir as delegate by the Director of Music.
Ensures appropriate copyright permissions, use fees and licenses have been obtained for all material used in the music program.
Maintains a level of knowledge and skills required for the ministry. This is accomplished by reading appropriate materials and attending workshops and conventions. This position also participates in regional, Archdiocesan and national professional organizations, as approved and as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and practices
Strong knowledge of Gospel and Jazz choir music, especially music historically sung by Shades of Praise Choir
Choir conducting, or vocal performance
Demonstrate understanding of vocal health and range development
Proven ability to read and interpret music
Ability to utilize motivational techniques and build a collaborative, positive environment for singers of varying skill levels
Ability to play score accompaniments or pitch cues during rehearsals
Ability to manage sheet music, schedule rehearsals and prepare budgets
Strong communication skills
