St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church in Laurel, MD is hiring a choir director for the Adult Chancel Choir. The Adult Choir Director is responsible for the musical preparation, rehearsal, and direction of the parish Adult Chancel Choir for Sunday Masses and designated liturgical celebrations. The Director should foster a prayerful, welcoming, and musically excellent choir ministry rooted in the Roman Catholic liturgy and the sacred music tradition of the Church.

**Duties**

* Direct weekly Adult Chancel Choir rehearsals and prepare the choir to sing at scheduled liturgies.
* Prepare and conduct the choir for the parish’s designated Sunday Mass and other major liturgical celebrations.
* Select, prepare, teach, and conduct appropriate sacred choral repertoire in consultation with the Director of Music & Liturgy.
* Provide clear musical leadership during rehearsals, including work on vocal technique, diction, phrasing, blend, intonation, rhythm, dynamics, and interpretation.
* Maintain a positive, respectful, prayerful, and collaborative rehearsal environment for adult volunteer singers.
* Work effectively with singers of varied musical backgrounds and abilities while maintaining appropriate musical standards.

**Skills**

* Practicing Catholic in good standing (preferred) or a candidate who fully respects Catholic liturgical t**r**adition and agrees to uphold Catholic faith and moral principles in public life
* Strong interpersonal and people skills, with the ability to lead, encourage, teach, and work graciously with adult volunteers as well as work together with our Spanish Choir for bilingual services.
* Advanced musical education, preferably a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Music (BM), or comparable degree or formal musical training; equivalent professional experience directing a Catholic church choir may be considered.
* Demonstrated experience directing and rehearsing choral ensembles, preferably in a Roman Catholic parish.
* Proficient piano/keyboard skills sufficient to lead rehearsals, teach vocal parts, accompany warm-ups, and support musical preparation.

Pay: $100.00 - $125.00 per hour
