Church Musician

Position Summary

Flatlands Reformed Church (FRC) is seeking a gifted and spiritually mature Church Musician to serve as part of our worship ministry team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both keyboard and Hammond organ and possess a passion for leading God's people in worship through music. This individual will work closely with the Minister of Music to support and enhance the worship life of the congregation through traditional hymns, gospel music, and contemporary praise and worship music.

The successful candidate will demonstrate musical excellence, a heart for ministry, and a commitment to helping cultivate a vibrant worship culture that encourages congregational participation and spiritual growth.

Essential Responsibilities

Worship Leadership

Provide musical accompaniment on keyboard and Hammond organ for Sunday worship services, special services, and church events.Play a broad range of musical styles, including traditional hymns, gospel music, and contemporary praise and worship songs.Assist in leading congregational singing and worship.Serve as a vocalist when appropriate and support worship leadership through singing.Work with the Minister of Music to create worship experiences that are engaging, spiritually enriching, and Christ-centered.Ministry Collaboration

Work under the direction of and in partnership with the Minister of Music.Participate in worship planning meetings and rehearsals as required.Collaborate with worship leaders, vocalists, choir members, and instrumentalists to ensure meaningful and effective worship experiences.Support the overall vision and goals of the worship ministry.

Spiritual Leadership

Model Christian character and servant leadership.Foster an atmosphere of worship, encouragement, and unity.Support the mission and ministry of Flatlands Reformed Church through faithful participation and service.Demonstrate a commitment to nurturing a worship environment where people can encounter God and grow in faith.

Qualifications

Required

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience serving as a church musician.Proficiency in keyboard and Hammond organ performance.Ability to play by sheet music, chord charts, and/or by ear.Experience accompanying congregational singing.Ability to sing and assist in worship leadership.Ability to teach musical parts and work effectively with singers and musicians of varying skill levels.Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.Preferred

Experience directing or assisting choirs, praise teams, or other musical ensembles.Familiarity with a variety of worship traditions, including traditional, gospel, and contemporary worship styles.Experience working in a multicultural and intergenerational church setting.

Schedule and Availability

The Church Musician is expected to:

Be available for Sunday morning worship services.Attend scheduled rehearsals and worship planning meetings.Participate in special services throughout the church year, including but not limited to Advent, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter, Thanksgiving, and other seasonal celebrations.Provide musical support for funerals, memorial services, weddings, and other special occasions as availability permits.Arrive sufficiently in advance of services and rehearsals to prepare and support the worship ministry effectively.
