Music Support for Dance Classes The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts is seeking a skilled musician to provide accompaniment for dance classes. In this role, you will work with instructors to select appropriate music and adapt it to suit specific exercises and techniques. Key Responsibilities: • Provide musical accompaniment for modern dance and ballet classes, considering style and technique • Work with instructors to select and adapt music for specific exercises and techniques • Prepare multiple genres of music, including classical, pop, and musical theatre • Improvise and adapt music as needed to meet the needs of the class • Develop a strong working relationship with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds Requirements: • Bachelor's degree in Music or equivalent training and experience • One year of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate or professional level • Knowledge of ballet terminology and ability to learn • Strong sight-reading and improvisation skills
