Dance Musician (Non-benefited) – School of the Arts – Department of Dance and Choreography

The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) is seeking applicants for Musicians (piano and percussion accompaniment) for the Department of Dance and Choreography. Salary Range: $21-$23/hr Anticipated Weekly Hours: 6-12 Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent professional training, education, and experience • One (1) year of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional, or pre-professional level • Knowledge of/ability to learn ballet terminology • Ability to sight-read provided music and improvise in various styles as needed • Prepare multiple genres of music (e.g. classical, pop, musical theatre, opera, or others) which can be adapted for the ballet and/or modern dance class • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU.
