Dance Musician: Piano/Percussion for Ballet & Modern Dance

In this role, musicians will provide support for both major and non-major modern and ballet dance classes.Unit: School Of The Arts MBUDepartment: Dance ChoreographyDuties & ResponsibilitiesVirginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUarts) Department of Dance and Choreography is establishing a pool of applicants for possible Dance Musician positions. If an opportunity arises, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.Work with Dance and Choreography Instructors to select appropriate musical accompaniment, and provide adaptations to align with specific exercises and/or techniquesAccompany modern dance and/or ballet classes with appropriate musical and stylistic considerationsPerform other related duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Music or equivalent professional training, education, and experienceOne (1) year of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional, or pre-professional levelKnowledge of/ability to learn ballet terminologyAbility to sight-read provided music and improvise in various styles as neededPrepare multiple genres of music (e.g. classical, pop, musical theatre, opera, or others) which can be adapted for the ballet and/or modern dance classDemonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU.Preferred QualificationsThree (3) years of experience playing for dance classes at the collegiate, professional or pre-professional levelSalary Range: $21-$23/hrBenefits: All VCU employee types are eligible for a wide array of benefits to support you during your employment at VCU.
