Director of Bands and Instructor of Music Education

DescriptionThe University of Virginia’s College at Wise Department of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a dynamic musician and educator with a strong background in band directing and music education to be the UVA Wise Director of Bands and Instructor of Music Education. This is a nine-month, non-tenure-track instructor position, with the possibility of the position becoming tenure-track in the future. Other courses and ensembles may be assigned based on departmental needs. They will also oversee the UVA Wise wind, percussion, and strings inventory, ensuring proper accountability for instruments on loan, and coordinating the maintenance, repair, and replacement of instruments as needed.As an Instructor of Music Education, the successful candidate will teach music education courses as a part of their regular course rotation, including Instrumental Survey, Secondary Methods, Classroom Management in Music, Elementary Music Education, and serve as the mentor for any music education students placed in a teaching internship. They will also teach applied lessons and mentor Capstone and Senior Recitals in their instrument area.The successful candidate will maintain active and positive relationships with area high school band directors and others within the UVA Wise recruiting region; adjudicate and participate in state, regional, and national music organizations; cultivate positive alumni and community relationships; participate in college committee work, and perform other departmental duties as assigned by the VPAR Chair or Music Division Coordinator.Required Qualifications Master of Music Education (M.M.Ed.)
