The Director of Music will collaborate with staff and volunteers to enliven and enrich worship and create moments of beauty and reflection during which the congregation and broader community may experience the Divine. Choir rehearsal is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Essential Functions: • Plan and lead a year-round worship music program: select hymns, anthems, and other music that align thematically with each service’s focus (following the Revised Common Lectionary) and that reflect a diversity of styles; plan, rehearse, and conduct the Chancel Choir August-May; coordinate soloists when the Choir is on summer break • Develop seasonal music and special performances in consultation with the Senior Minister and the Community Ministry, including one major work each semester • Guide and encourage congregational singing • Continue and nurture relationship with the University of Texas Butler School of Music • Recruit, hire, and supervise Choral Scholars (paid student singers) • Recruit new volunteer choir members from within the congregation and beyond • Plan, hire, and rehearse guest instrumentalists for special services • Assist with music leadership for funerals and memorial services • Foster an encouraging environment of Christian community within the Chancel Choir • Supervise the organist and any other music staff; conduct annual evaluations • Communicate plans efficiently and effectively via email, Google Suite, and other channels • Plan, budget, and maintain all music materials, equipment, instruments, and subscriptions, including copyright reporting and copyright license subscriptions • Consult with administrative staff regarding building use for recitals and other music events • Hold regularly-scheduled office hours (in person and/or virtually) • Engage in the life of the church beyond the choir in order to help grow base of volunteer musicians through relationships • Collaborate with other UCC staff to schedule and promote frequent public music performances in the UCC sanctuary • Attend weekly staff meetings and/or meetings with the Senior Minister; attend appropriate Ministry Unit meetings (primarily Community Ministry) as needed Compensation and Benefits • This position will require approximately 20 hours per week.
