The Director of Music reports to the Principal and supports the mission of Scranton Preparatory School by cultivating a vibrant culture of music that reflects the Jesuit commitment to forming the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. A primary focus of this role is the development of a sustainable, student-centered music program. Through creativity, vision, and commitment to Jesuit education, the Director of Music will lay the foundation for a program that forms not only skilled musicians but reflective, compassionate young people prepared to share their gifts for the greater glory of God. Facilitating opportunities for student musicianship not only to build skill, but to form students as reflective practitioners – attentive to beauty, disciplined in practice, and open to the ways music can deepen their awareness of self, others, and God.Designing and teaching courses that introduce students to foundational musical skills, theory, and appreciation – fostering both technical growth and a deeper understanding of music as a form of expression.Supporting the liturgical and spiritual life of the Prep community by collaborating in the planning and execution of liturgical music.Contributing to and collaborating with other Prep community events, including theatrical productions, graduations, fundraisers, etc. Ensuring that music remains an integral part of the school’s prayer, celebration, and shared experiences.Build relationships with external partners and educational organizations to bring innovative opportunities to the program.Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
