Position Title: Director of Music

Reports To: Senior Pastor

Position Summary
The Director of Music is a part-time position (10/15 hours per week) that is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the music ministry of Folly Beach Baptist Church in a way that supports and enhances the overall mission and worship of the church. This includes leading congregational singing, directing the choir and/or worship ensembles, and working with the pastor to plan Christ-centered, gospel-focused worship services that are both reverent and engaging.

Primary Responsibilities

Worship Leadership
Lead congregational singing during Sunday morning worship services and other services as necessary.
Coordinate and lead rehearsals for any choirs, vocal teams, or instrumentalists.
Select music that is biblically sound and theologically aligned with the values of the Southern Baptist Convention.
If the church pianist or music director will be absent from a given worship service, the Director of Music shall be responsible for a replacement for the pianist or himself.
Worship Planning
Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to plan weekly worship services that support the sermon theme and church calendar.
Prepare song selections, lyrics/slides, and music for musicians in a timely manner.
Provide seasonal music events for holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, etc.
Music Ministry Development
Recruit and develop volunteer musicians and vocalists.
Encourage participation from all age groups within the church body.
Explore opportunities for age graded choirs.
Administration
Coordinate with the church office for bulletin/song sheet preparation.
Manage the music ministry budget and maintain the church’s music library and equipment.

Qualifications

A committed Christian with a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.
Supportive of the mission, doctrine, and practices of Folly Beach Baptist Church and the Southern Baptist Convention.
Become a member of Folly Beach Baptist Church.
Proficiency in leading worship vocally and instrumentally (preferably with piano or guitar).
Experience directing music in a church setting preferred.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.

Compensation
This is a part-time, paid position with a base salary of $8570. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and agreed upon by the Personnel Committee and approved by the church body.
