Director of Music

We are looking for a talented musician to join our growing congregation. Established in 1762, Hopewell has a rich tradition as one of the oldest Presbyterian churches in Mecklenburg county while also being open to growth, change, and creativity. Job Responsibilities: • Providing organ/piano and directing the choir(s) at the service regularly scheduled each Sunday • Selecting appropriate music for each service in conjunction with the Pastor (Head of Staff) • Currently Hopewell has one scheduled service at 10:00am • Providing organ/piano and/or choral music for additional services during the year, which may include but is not limited to Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, applicable Holy Week and Easter Services, etc • Having responsibility for the leadership of the following choirs: Chancel Choir and Bell Ringers • Rehearsing once weekly (or as otherwise specified) with each of the choirs • During the summer months, neither Chancel Choir nor Bell Ringers meet (8 weeks) • Cooperating with the clergy and/or the Worship Team for the general planning and leadership of the church’s music program • Being responsible for the purchase of all necessary music and music supplies, and the hiring of instrumental and vocal soloists • Reporting to the appropriate committee the condition and needs for the maintenance of the organ and pianos • Providing music for funeral services and weddings held within the church as available • The position of Director of Music is based on a contractual basis.
