Position Title: Director of Music Location: St. Jude Catholic Parish, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46237 Status: Full-Time FLSA: Exempt Reports to: Director of Ministry Operations The Director of Music is responsible for collaborating with clergy, staff, and volunteer musicians to plan and execute parish liturgies and music. • Administer a multifaceted music program including planning, budgeting, scheduling and timely communication with clergy, staff, and volunteer musicians • Oversee scheduling of musicians for Sunday, Holy Day, and other special liturgies • Develop and implement strategies for continuously improving congregational participation in the liturgy • Develop specific choirs/ensembles and cantors for liturgies • Oversee the development of a Children's Choir and encourage youth participation in the Music Ministry • Prepare worship aids for special liturgical celebrations, as directed by pastor • Select music for liturgical celebrations • Review scripts for special celebrations (e.g. Holy Week) and execute as prescribed • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing procedures • Maintain choir library and musical resources, as needed • Collaborate with the Church Audio/Visual Ministry to establish robust processes for communication of pertinent liturgical and musical information for weekend/Holy Day Masses and special events • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to ensure accuracy of information on the parish website and other electronic media, and to advertise/promote elements of the Music Ministry, as appropriate • Approve music selections for funeral and wedding liturgies, coordinate parish instrumentalists and vocalists when requested, and approve any non-parish musicians • Participate in Parish Staff and Ministry Team meetings • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church • Must possess a strong commitment to the Catholic faith and a passion for sharing the faith with joy and enthusiasm • Must possess a working knowledge of the Roman Missal/Order of the Mass • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment with peers and adult volunteers • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills • Must demonstrate strong time management skills, including capability to prioritize work and meet deadlines • Bachelor Degree (or greater) in Liturgy or Music preferred • Capabilities in chorale direction, instrumental (including piano and organ), and vocal preferred • Practical experience of 5+ years in a pastoral setting preferred
