Working closely with the Pastor, Worship & Music Committee, Contemporary Worship Leader, choir members, handbell ringers, and volunteers, the Director helps shape a welcoming, thriving, uplifting worship experience for all.Primary ResponsibilitiesWorship Planning & Leadership: Provide overall leadership and accountability for worship planning, musical direction, and volunteer coordination to ensure all aspects of the music ministry are carried out with excellence. Fill in for the organist when needed. Provide music for midweek services. Lead music for festival services (Christmas Eve, Holy Week, Easter, etc.). Ensure all music supports the proclamation of the Word and Lutheran liturgical tradition.Ensemble Direction:Adult Vocal Choir: Recruit and support choir members; select accessible, meaningful repertoire; lead weekly rehearsals and direct in worship (Sept–May).Handbell Choir: Oversee rehearsals, repertoire, and worship participation; support ringers of all skill levels; lead weekly rehearsals and direct in worship (Sept–May).Special Music: Recruit, rehearse with, and coordinate summer anthems; schedule soloists, instrumentalists, and small ensembles; encourage participation from youth, families, and guest musicians.Children’s Choir: Develop and lead a Children’s Choir Ministry; select age-appropriate repertoire for worship and the church year; lead regular rehearsals (with Youth Director/families); foster confidence, joy, and spiritual growth in young singers.Stewardship of Instruments & Resources:Instrument Care: Oversee tuning, maintenance, and repair of organ, pianos, and handbells; serve as primary contact for tuners and technicians; schedule regular maintenance.Music Library & Licensing: Maintain and organize choral, handbell, and instrumental music; ensure copyright compliance (CCLI, Sundays & Seasons); provide accurate documentation to the church office.Administration & Collaboration: Inspire, equip, and support volunteers in taking on leadership roles within their areas of service; participate in Worship & Music Committee meetings and Staff meetings; collaborate on worship planning and long-term ministry goals; manage the annual music ministry budget; communicate clearly with volunteers, staff, and leadership; coordinate worship schedules and seasonal planning in advance.QualificationsRequired (note: formal emphasis removed to comply with formatting rules):Commitment to Jesus Christ and His church.Experience in choral directing and conducting.Familiarity with Scripture, Lutheran liturgy, the Revised Common Lectionary, and the church year.Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.Warm, encouraging spirit; ability to work with volunteers of varied musical backgrounds.PreferredProficiency in piano and/or organ.Four-year college/university degree in music or related field.Experience in Lutheran or liturgical church music.Experience directing handbell choirs.Basic budgeting and administrative skills.#J-18808-Ljbffr
