St. Thomas More Catholic Church is seeking a Director of Sacred Music to enrich our liturgical life through prayerful, beautiful, and engaging sacred music.About the RoleThe Director of Sacred Music serves as the principal musician of the parish, working closely with the Pastor and parish leadership to plan, coordinate, and lead music for all liturgical celebrations. The ideal candidate appreciates the richness of the Church's musical heritage while also drawing from worthy contemporary Catholic repertoire to foster active participation in worship.ResponsibilitiesPrepare and lead music (including cantoring as needed) for:Two weekday MassesThree weekend MassesSpecial liturgies including Holy Days, Stations of the Cross, Eucharistic Adoration, Penance Services, and other parish celebrationsPlay our 1997 Berghaus pipe organ (1,959 pipes, 37 ranks, 3 manuals) and Yamaha C3 ES grand pianoDirect and rehearse the Adult Choir, Children's Choir, and Men's ScholaRecruit, mentor, and develop cantors, choir members, and instrumentalistsPlan seasonal and sacramental music from the breadth of the Church's sacred musical traditionMeet with families to plan music for weddings and funerals (separate compensation provided)Maintain the parish music library, instruments, and music resourcesPrepare worship aids to encourage congregational participationParticipate in parish staff meetings and collaborate with the parish team in support of our missionWhat We're Looking ForProficiency in organ, piano, choral conducting, and vocal leadershipKnowledge of Catholic liturgy and sacred musicAn appreciation for both the Church's musical heritage and quality contemporary Catholic musicA collaborative leader who enjoys building and growing parish music ministriesBasic Diploma in Music Ministry from Sacred Heart Major Seminary (or equivalent), or willingness to obtain one during employmentA strong understanding of the Ministry of Presence and a desire to serve the parish communityWhy St. Thomas More?Lead a well‑established and respected music ministry.Play an exceptional 1997 Berghaus pipe organ alongside a Yamaha C3 ES grand piano.Help shape the future of sacred music in a growing parish community.Competitive salary, additional compensation for weddings and funerals, and opportunities for professional and spiritual growth.Please apply using the Archdiocese of Detroit website.
