The Musical Arts Institute is a black-serving, nonprofit music education program dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible instruction to youth in our community. Our drumline and percussion program engages students in both traditional and contemporary percussion techniques while building teamwork, discipline, and musicality. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Drumline & Percussion Teaching Artist to lead group percussion classes and coach student drumline ensembles. Key Responsibilities • Teach weekly drumline and percussion classes to youth (8-17) • Prepare students for performances, parades, and community events • Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment • Collaborate with program staff to support student growth and engagement • Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, families, and administration • Assist in selecting repertoire and arranging parts for student ensembles Qualifications • Proficient in rudimental drumming and percussion pedagogy • Experience leading or teaching drumline, marching band, or percussion ensemble • Ability to read music and teach rhythmic literacy • Strong classroom management and youth development skills • Availability to teach on a regular weekly schedule (specific days/times TBD) • Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent professional experience preferred • Commitment to equity, access, and culturally responsive teaching
