Elementary Music Teacher

Lessons and activities are broad and deep to help children learn about music itself and through music in its connections to all aspects of life and areas of study. Music is central to the life of our school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Create, plan and teach weekly music classes to students in mixed-age groups of children in grades 1-3 and 4-6 Facilitate “open music studio” for children in grades 1-3 and 4-6 Lead weekly “all-sing” sessions for children in grades 1-6 Approach all work with an anti bias anti racist lens, supporting students in developing positive self-identity, an appreciation for and understanding of diversity, an understanding of justice, and ways to take action Plan and lead school-wide (and community-wide) assemblies throughout the year Support song leading as needed as part of classroom trips, overnights and celebrations Maintain all instruments and materials in two music environments, assuring that the environments are accessible, child-centered and aesthetically pleasing Support classroom teachers with their performances for children in grades 1-3 Communicate with families as needed throughout the year Communicate with colleagues, the elementary coordinators, and Head of School as needed regarding children Set professional goals annually and plan and complete annual professional development that supports those goals Support the school and its mission, vision, and values through being an engaged colleague by attending and contributing to creating a strong and vibrant school community Required Qualifications: A love and passion for music and connecting young people to music Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or comparable experience Previous experience working in education and/or working with elementary aged children A creative and responsive educator who centers children’s creativity and ideas A confident song leader An educator committed to Anti-Bias Anti- Racist practice throughout the curriculum Effective verbal and written communication skills Ability to pass background checks Additional Characteristics of an Ideal Candidate: A passionate and energetic musician Training in, experience in, or an understanding of Montessori education Training in Orff Schulwerk music pedagogy Experience and background in theatre/drama Ability to conduct extracurricular choirs for children and adolescents A professional, collaborative, and flexible colleague A believer in the power of community music making Enjoys and is skilled at building relationships with children, families, and colleagues Interest and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and working with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds Positive attitude, problem solver, and a strong work ethic Welcomes feedback and is continually looking to develop, learn, and improve professionally Interested in hearing and understanding different and new perspectives Experience working with Google suite applications Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply for all positions as Lake Country School is committed to its faculty and staff reflecting the diversity of the Twin Cities area.
