Part‑Time Adjunct Faculty – Music History
The University of Southern Maine’s Osher School of Music is seeking Part‑Time Adjunct Faculty applicants for the upcoming academic year. Our Fall 2026 semester begins August 31, 2026.

We are searching for adjunct faculty in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, or an associated field to teach within the Osher School of Music (OSOM) Music History Curriculum. While teaching loads will vary from semester to semester, responsibilities would primarily include Music History Survey I (MUH 222) and/or Music History Survey 2 (MUH 223), with potential contributions to the core graduate curriculum.

Course Descriptions
Music History Survey I (MUH 222) – An historical study of the language and style of music from antiquity to 1850. Significant composers, major genres, and representative musical compositions are studied.

Music History Survey 2 (MUH 223) – An historical study of the language and style of Western art music from 1850 to the present day. Significant composers, major genres, and representative musical compositions are studied.

Responsibilities

Deliver and grade Music History Survey I (MUH 222) and/or Music History Survey 2 (MUH 223).
Teach, assess student performance, and meet with students as needed.
Contribute to core graduate curriculum as appropriate.

Benefits
Part‑time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience, as determined by the Part‑Time Faculty Association of Maine (PATFA), an affiliate of the national American Federation of Teachers (AFT) union. Eligible part‑time faculty may elect certain benefits provided by the University of Maine System.

Required Qualifications

Master's Degree in music or commensurate professional experience.
Previous collegiate teaching experience in Music History curricula.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Musicology or Ethnomusicology.
