The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is hiring for three positions: one First Violin (5th chair) and two Section First Violin roles. Auditions will take place in two rounds, with the Preliminary and Semi-Final rounds scheduled for November 1-4, 2026, and the Final round on December 1, 2026. Candidates may be asked to submit taped excerpts by September 28, 2026, as directed by the Audition Committee. The positions are set to begin on February 1, 2027, or by mutual agreement, but no later than September 6, 2027.The pay for the 2026-27 season is based on the minimum orchestra weekly scale of $2,345.15, along with an annual Electronic Media Guarantee of $2,072.40. Employment is contingent upon passing background checks, and musicians must have authorization to work in the U.S. The Pittsburgh Symphony will sponsor visa petitions for hired musicians, but they must cover the associated costs.

The orchestra provides ten collective vacation weeks each season, paid at the same rate as work weeks.
