High School Band Director – Job DescriptionThe High School Band Director is responsible for planning, developing, and directing a comprehensive instrumental music program that promotes student growth in musical skill, discipline, teamwork, and performance excellence. This position includes leadership of concert band, marching band, and related ensembles.Primary ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Program DevelopmentTeach high school instrumental music courses (concert band, marching band, etc.)Develop and implement a sequential music curriculum aligned with state standardsAssess student performance and provide regular feedback for growthPrepare students for performances, competitions, and evaluationsBand LeadershipDirect and organize the marching band program, including rehearsals, drill design, and performancesConduct concerts, pep band events, and community performancesSelect appropriate music and arrange scores when necessaryStudent DevelopmentFoster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive environmentEncourage leadership, responsibility, and teamwork among studentsSupport student participation in honor bands, solo/ensemble contests, and auditionsOperations & AdministrationManage band budget, inventory, and equipmentCoordinate transportation, scheduling, and logistics for eventsMaintain accurate records of student participation, grades, and attendanceCommunicate effectively with students, parents, administration, and staffCollaborate with middle school/junior high directors to build program continuityWork with booster clubs and community stakeholders to support the programSupervisionSupervise students during rehearsals, performances, and travelEnsure student safety and adherence to school policiesQualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Music Education or related field.State teaching certification in Music Education.Experience in directing high school band programs.Ability to teach Music Appreciation or Choir.Willingness to co-teach beginning band and assist with junior high band.Must have or be willing to obtain a CDL within the first year of employment.Leadership and classroom managementStrong organizational and time management skillsEffective communication and interpersonal skillsMusical proficiency and conducting abilityEvent planning and coordinationSchool campus, band room, football field, and performance venuesRequires after-school rehearsals, evening performances, and some weekend eventsTravel required for competitions and performances#J-18808-Ljbffr
