HS Assistant Marching Band Director

This position involves assisting the Marching Band Director with all logistics and organization of the DeWitt High School Marching Band program. Additionally, the position includes responsibilities as a Visual and Performing Arts elective teacher. Qualifications • Past experience working with competitive marching bands is recommended, but not required, for consideration • Demonstrated ability and experience with the instruction and supervision of high school students • Bachelor’s degree and certification • Brass specialist preferred, but open to excellent candidates with other appropriate skills • Punctuality and good attendance mandatory • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a school instructional team • Ability to work with other members of the music department toward common goals • Willing to meet rehearsal and performance schedules currently in place • Willing to work with the Band Booster group in support of the band program • Positive attitude about students is required Marching Band & Yearbook • The Assistant Marching Band Director, along with the Marching Band Director, ensures that DeWitt High School is well-represented at all competitions and football games during the marching band season • The Assistant Marching Band Director is also responsible for elective visual arts courses, yearbook – Schedule B duties • Assists the Marching Band Director with the supervision of DHS students at school, while traveling, and visiting off-site locations (competitions, band camp, state finals at Ford Field, etc). Ensures students are informed and on-task • Assist director and instructional staff with the audition/selection process • Assist with uniform distribution and maintenance as needed • Work with director to identify ways to involve the marching band in DeWitt community events • Assist with instruction at all 6-9 pm Monday Night Rehearsals • Work in conjunction with the director to identify and allocate funds for purchases, such as arrangements, supplies, and instruments • Help ensure that all instruments are in proper working condition (functional, tuned, and repaired if necessary) • Facilitate the movement of equipment and supplies to and from rehearsals, competitions, and performances.
