University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Arts & Humanities Department, is seeking applications for the Instructor position for the Koa Art Gallery. As a community college gallery, it is also the pillar of the arts education program at Kapi‘olani Community College, exhibiting student and faculty work as well as providing opportunities for students and the community to engage with artists, not only through exhibitions, but also through lectures, critiques, workshops, and visiting artist programs.Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder the general supervision of the Department Chair, the Gallery Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the Koa Art Gallery and other campus exhibition spaces. Plans, coordinates, and oversees all receptions, opening events, and ancillary workshops and activities for each exhibition that bring together the students, faculty, staff, and administration as well as the community at large. Develop and/or update course content and materials, teaching and assessment strategies methods toimprove student attainment of course competencies, and instructional and program-level learning outcomes;address the learning needs of the college's diverse students;integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate;use multimedia resources, including computers, where appropriate.Plan, organize, and independently carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited topreparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours or academic advising, and for conferring with students about course work (one office hour per week per three-credit class).Develop and offer courses online.Non-teaching duties include working collegially to provide service to the department and college,engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise,engaging in professional development,engaging in professional and scholarly activities related to one's disciplines or teaching,perform related duties as assigned as part of regular workload; gallery duties may include evenings and weekends.Coordinates annual student and faculty exhibitionsOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Art or Fine Art; ORMaster recognition by Applied Art Community AND 10 years of related work experience.Note: All minimum qualifications must be from an accredited institution and be met by the effective date of appointment.Desirable QualificationsExperience in gallery management and administration.Exhibition design and curatorial experience.Experience in grant writing.Experience in budget oversight and management.Background in foundation studio courses.Background in art history.Successful college-level teaching experience substantiated by student evaluations, peer evaluations, and/or other references.Understanding of the needs of community college students.Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including students with disabilities and students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members from diverse backgrounds and serve as a liaison for the gallery.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.Ability to cultivate relationships with artists, scholars, and other individuals in the local contemporary art community.Experience in digital skills required for budget management, exhibition announcements, press releases, and gallery administration.Demonstrated commitment to professional self-development.Evidence of commitment to Kapi‘olani Community College’s vision of positioning itself as a model indigenous serving institution whose graduates strengthen the social, economic, and sustainable advancement of Hawai‘i and the world.INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED (Read the "To Apply" section carefully)To Apply: Click on the "Apply" button on the top right corner of the screen to complete an application and attach the required documents.
