SUMMARY:
The Internship Coordinator will provide direct support to students enrolled in the Musicians Institutes’ internship courses in any or all of the following programs: Music Business, Performance, Composition, Independent Artist Program, Audio Engineering, and Live Sound Production. Duties will include outreach to multiple high-profile studios and individual contacts in the music and entertainment industries for the purpose of securing internships for current students. The successful candidate will have extensive experience and contacts in music/entertainment. Background and or studies in Music Business highly desired.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicate and coordinate internships with a large number of businesses in the industry, on a daily basis
Serve as the Internship placement coordinator for multiple MI programs for a high volume of students
Field questions from prospective students seeking enrollment
Facilitate pre-screening and interview coordination for Internship Program enrollment
Work in coordination with the Career Services team to facilitate the training and placement of students into the Internship Program
Facilitate the announcement of open internship opportunities to all participants on a weekly basis
Provide detailed internship and career counseling for all students throughout the program
Track and document student status, activity, performance, attendance, and professionalism during their internship, for grading purposes
Collaborate with employers for development of internship and career placement opportunities
Maintain communication with internship sites
Outreach to new businesses, and provide a first line of support to businesses with FAQ’s regarding MI’s internship placement process.
Meet established quarterly goals.
Perform site visits to determine suitability of internships for students
Daily outreach to music industry companies to meet department goals.
Manage online database of internship sites
Support ACS structure, events and department initiatives as needed
Assist with booking and scheduling of industry mentors with Career Services team
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
Organizational skills and attention to detail (excellent multitasker and great follow-through).
Service and Results oriented – does whatever is needed to meet the expectations of customers.
Extensive experience and contacts in the music/entertainment industries.
Experience working with students in higher education is a plus.
Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and work independently.
Strong oral, writing, editing, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with co-workers.
Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and database management, record keeping, and Google Suite.
Ethical / Honest – evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality.
General knowledge of various employment laws and practices.
General knowledge of educational and best practice procedures.
Experience, Education, Certification:
At least 3-5 years of experience working in the music/recording/entertainment industries
Educational and/or career counseling experience
Minimum of AA/AS degree (or equivlent); a bachelor's degree is a plus.
An understanding of the nature and duties of internships in the music/recording/entertainment industries
Equipment and/or Software typically associated with this position:
Office equipment including, but not limited to, computer, phone, fax machine, copier and calculator. Actual tools may vary.
Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Reader, Google Docs, etc.
