Limited Term Lecturer–Assistant Director of Bands

All faculty at Georgia State are, as part of their essential job duties, expected to: (1) be physically present on-campus as needed to contribute to Georgia State’s in-person educational experience, and (2) be able to teach in each of the following instructional modalities – in-person, online, or blended/hybrid – as determined by their Department Chair or Dean. The candidate will be expected to • Help attract, recruit, and retain talented woodwind, brass, and percussion students from the state of Georgia and beyond, especially in performance and instrumental music education, • Maintain a visible profile as an educator, • Interact with pre-collegiate students and high school music programs, • Teach supplementary courses and other related courses as needed and as the schedule allows (i.e. conducting courses, music theory, aural skills, music appreciation, etc. ), • Work closely with the instrumental faculty, and all School of Music colleagues, • Attend faculty meetings (including those of the band area, department, college, and university), • Actively participate in faculty governance at the school and other faculty administrative assignments as needed. Preferred Qualifications/Experience • Doctorate in Music • Experience and as a full-time band director at the collegiate level • An established national reputation as a conductor • Teaching band at the college level • A commitment to music instruction
