Full Job Description MINISTER OF MUSIC Position Description: The Minister of Music is responsible for developing and promoting the music ministry of the church. This position will oversee all musicians and praise team/choir members. Primary Responsibilities: Overall responsibility to develop musical/worship ministry that is culturally relevant Facilitate rehearsal every Tuesday Dedicate two in-office / on-site working days every week Attend Staff Meetings Must be available for and participate in all weekend services, special times of worship and large church-wide events Help usher people into worship with confidence and humility Plan worship and choir music in light of sermons Arrive at least an hour before service Must work independently with little to no supervision Provide musical variety to reflect the diverse context of the congregation and community Select, teach and execute all praise and worship music for services, funerals, events, etc… Seek out and encourage growth and participation from the congregation in the music ministry Invest in and mentor the musical and leadership gifts of those already involved in the music ministry. Provide and plan opportunities for solo pieces and ensemble pieces for special music opportunities Make known and promote educational opportunities and workshops for musicians and choir Introduce and communicate innovative ideas and ways to grow the music ministry Propose guest artists to the Pastor for special events and/or special services Communicate details and weekly expectations for the choir, worship leaders, musicians and technology team timely, clearly, and effectively Bring order, structure, and unity to the Music Ministry Utilize the gifts of those serving Other duties as requested Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Music or equivalent experience Qualifications: A personal sense of call on life and an ongoing and developing relationship with the Lord of that call An attitude and communication style that reflects an understanding of servant leadership; with a teachable spirit. A proven track record of successful development of a music ministry.
