The Music Director for the Diocese of Orlando and Cathedral is a professional who holds specialized credentials in sacred music and has a thorough understanding of Roman Catholic liturgy. Understanding the Cathedral Church is the Bishop’s church, as well as a parish community, the Music Director is responsible for the recruitment, formation, and direction of music ministers in support of the liturgies of the St. James Cathedral parish community. Pastoral Musician as Professional Person Commitment to professional development is a mutual responsibility of the musician and the parish. The responsibility of the pastoral musician as an administrator involves: • Makes liturgical music policies in conjunction with the Liturgy Commission and pastoral staff, taking into consideration Diocesan and national guidelines; • Formulates a music budget for the diocese and cathedral music programs; • Develops and maintains a liturgical music library of various styles and genres for assembly, choir, cantor and instrumentalists; • Maintains the diocesan and cathedral's musical instruments; • Monitors and oversees Cathedral sound system components during liturgies and communicates equipment failures and solutions to the facilities manager.
