Music Director

• Accompany the congregation’s worship on piano and occasionally organ, or keyboard • Direct various congregational choral and instrumental groups • Coordinate congregational worship planning • Select music that supports the season and liturgy as well as incorporates the variety of hymns available • A part-time position requiring an average of 24 hours per week • Bachelor’s degree in music, church music, or other related degree • Demonstrate knowledge of Lutheran theology, liturgical practice, and use of music in worship (i.e. understanding the role of the choir as assisting the congregation’s worship rather than performing anthems) (Peace Lutheran Church has a history of encouraging its music director to study theologically as well as musically.) • Plan and coordinate the entire music program of the congregation • Participate in the planning of worship services and other musical activities in the congregation and assist in the preparation and review of worship booklets • Schedule all choirs and other musicians participating in worship • Hold regularly scheduled rehearsals as needed for the Sanctuary Choir, and lead the Bell Choir, Brass Ensemble, and all other musicians as recruited and needed, as hours allow. • Educate and train all musicians participating in the program, recruit and encourage participation from all age groups within the congregation • Make available new resources and ideas to all program participants, and coordinate new worship planning ideas with the pastor and the Worship Planning Team • Attend regular staff meetings and work with the Worship Planning Team and the Board of Spiritual Development for short and long-range planning. • Participate with the church staff, pastor, and other leaders in facilitating congregational goals, especially those goals pertaining to the worship and music life of the congregation • Assume responsibility for those tasks mutually agreed upon with the supervising pastor • Maintain a record of personal hours worked, vacation and sick leave
