Director of Music Ministries/Pianist

Position Summary

To promote leadership in developing and implementing the traditional and contemporary music ministries of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, and to actively engage the congregation in worship through music.

Responsibilities of the Director of Music Ministries

· Coordinate music at all worship services including any vocal and/or instrumental performances. Work with the Pastor and Worship Committee in planning.

· Coordinate music, media and overall worship service with Pastor, Worship Team and Director of Media Ministries.

· Provide musical (piano and/or organ) accompaniment for church services, weddings, and funerals.

· Direct the Praise Band/Praise Team and Chancel Choir.

· Recruit and encourage musicians, both vocal and instrumental, within the congregation and promote the music program.

· Maintain regular choir rehearsal and communication with choir members via email, phone and/or text. (The choir normally rehearses on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00)

· Select and purchase choir music within budget.

· Plan special music for weekly worship services and special occasions and holidays.

· Catalog and organize all music resources.

· Oversee the care and upkeep of all church owned instruments.

· Provide the Worship Team with song titles, lyrics and other information for the service bulletin and PowerPoint slides.

· Participate in scheduled employee meetings.

· Be an active participant of the Worship Committee.

· Offer suggestions and observations which would improve Cornerstone music ministry.

· Assume such other duties as may be assigned by the pastor.

Qualifications

· A degree in music education, music performance or equivalent experience.
• Skilled pianist with ability to play a variety of choral music, hymns and contemporary music.

· Enthusiastic with good verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to actively engage the congregation during worship through traditional and contemporary music.

· Ability to give and receive constructive criticism.

· Ability to promote harmony in the workplace by maintaining good working relationships.

· Ability to give detailed attention to the duties for which he/she is primarily responsible while offering imaginative and creative thinking to the overall mission of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

· A commitment to spiritual growth which will enhance the basic theological outlook of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

Terms of Employment

Hours: This is a part-time position requiring approximately 10 hours a week, including personal rehearsal time, choir practice and service time

Salary: Salaries are reviewed by the Staff Parish Relations Committee each fall and voted on by the Annual Charge Conference, to go into effect January 1st each year. The salary for this position is paid by the month and not hourly. All staff are paid twice per month.

Time Off: All requests for personal time must be approved by the Pastor. The choir does not practice in the month of August, but does continue to provide music for Sunday worship each week.

Benefits: There are no medical benefits for part-time employees

Resignation: A written two-week notice is suggested to be given before termination of employment by either the church or the staff member.

Supervision: The Director of Music Ministries is directly accountable to the Pastor for the satisfactory fulfillment of all functions and responsibilities in consultation with the Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Pay: $10,000.00 - $12,000.00 per year
