Teaching Music in a Classroom Environment The role of a music teacher K-12 involves developing students' understanding and appreciation of the art of music. This includes listening to a wide range of musical genres, periods, and styles. The ideal candidate will identify, promote, and develop each student's talents in vocal and instrumental musical expression. Main Responsibilities: • Developing and implementing a music education curriculum aligned with school district goals and objectives • Creating a classroom environment that is safe, conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and supports student learning • Designing a balanced music program and lessons to organize class time effectively for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction • Evaluating student musical learning and progress, modifying instructional methods as needed, including for students with special needs; conducting individual and small group instruction as required • Utilizing a repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate • Planning, coordinating rehearsals for, and directing students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom • Maintaining professional knowledge and staying updated on current developments in the educational field through seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research • Organizing and maintaining accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting systems for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws • Fostering parental involvement in students' education and ensuring effective communication with students and parents • Ensuring student conduct conforms to school standards and policies, establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed for a productive learning atmosphere during practice, rehearsal, and performances • Collaborating with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participating in faculty meetings and committees • Selecting and requisitioning appropriate music supplies and instrumental equipment, maintaining inventory records, and ensuring equipment is in good working order
