Music Lab Student Tutor

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

* Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
* Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
* Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
* Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
* A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
* Federal Work Study student may apply.
* In good disciplinary standing.
* Must be located in the U.S.

The Theater Division is seeking Music Lab Student Tutors to provide individual and small-group academic support to students enrolled in music lab 1-4. Tutors will work with students who would benefit from additional support in developing their music literacy and musicianship skills. Primary areas of tutoring include music theory, sight reading, rhythm reading, and piano.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

* Provide individual and small-group tutoring to Theater Division students seeking additional support in music theory and musicianship.
* Assist students with music theory concepts, sight reading, rhythm reading, and piano skills.
* Help students develop effective strategies for strengthening their music literacy and musicianship skills.
* Adapt tutoring approaches to meet a variety of student learning styles and levels of experience.
* Create a positive, patient, and supportive learning environment.
* Communicate with the Coordinator of Theory as needed regarding tutoring needs and scheduling.
* Maintain professionalism and reliability in all scheduled tutoring sessions.

**Required Skills and Knowledge:**

Successful candidates should:

* Demonstrate excellent musicianship skills and a strong understanding of music theory.
* Have strong sight-reading, rhythm-reading, and piano skills.
* Be able to explain musical concepts clearly and effectively.
* Be flexible and sensitive in their tutoring approach and demonstrate an understanding of different student learning styles.
* Be positive, nurturing, patient, and encouraging when working with fellow students.
* Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills.
* Previous tutoring or teaching experience is welcome but not required.
