Brief Job Description

Providence School of Arts seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music to students in grades PreK-6th Grade and assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction. The teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, listening and moving to music, playing of instruments. The Music Teacher performs other duties directly related to this job description.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Teach general music to PreK-6th grade including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.

● Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary music as appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.

● Plan, rehearse, and direct students in two musical programs for school and community

●Co-teach and co-plan for K-12 musical theater programming along with the Drama and Dance Teacher

● Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of individual students.

● Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

● Establish and maintain standards for student behavior to provide a productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.

● Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.

● Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.

● Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.

● Cooperate with Administration in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.

What You’ll do

- Provide a strong instructional program for assigned grade level(s).

- Provide sound teaching and classroom management skills through positive reinforcement and early intervention.

- Work collaboratively produce a Christmas and Spring show through standards that are appropriate with the goals for the program. Meet with the other Arts Staff to bring each show to a successful completion.

- Demonstrate knowledge of grade level curriculum(s) and provide support for the development of future grade levels.

- Promote positive school climate and support the efforts of the Executive Director.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree

2+ years teaching experience at relevant grade levels
