MUSIC TEACHER

Music Teacher - Full Time

**Location:** Hamady Middle/High School, Flint, Michigan
**Grade Level: 9-12th**
**Start Date:** August 2025
**Reports To:** Principal
**Union Affiliation:** WHEA – Westwood Heights Education Association

### Overview: Hamady Middle/High School is seeking a passionate and qualified Music Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire students through engaging instruction in vocal and instrumental music, fostering creativity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

* Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Music (JX or JQ) endorsement
* Completion of an approved teacher preparation program
* Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
* Successful completion of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) in Music
* Completion of required reading coursework (3 semester credit hours for secondary level)
* Documented clinical experience, including student teaching

**Preferred Qualifications:**

* Experience teaching music at the middle and/or high school level
* Proficiency in both vocal and instrumental instruction
* Ability to organize and lead performances, concerts, and extracurricular music activities
* Strong classroom management and communication skills
* Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices

**Responsibilities:**

* Deliver standards-based instruction in music theory, performance, and appreciation
* Develop lesson plans that align with Michigan curriculum standards
* Assess student progress and provide timely feedback
* Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning
* Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment
* Participate in school events, professional development, and parent communication
