Music Therapist

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Music Therapist role based in Toledo. The Music Therapist will provide individualized and group music therapy sessions for hospice patients, using evidence-based techniques to support comfort, emotional expression, reminiscence, and quality of life. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing and updating treatment plans, documenting sessions in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards, and collaborating closely with nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other team members. The role involves regular communication with patients’ families and caregivers to explain therapeutic goals, offer education about music therapy, and support the overall plan of care. The Music Therapist will also participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contribute to care planning, and assist with bereavement and memorial services as appropriate.
Qualifications
Formal training in music therapy, including competency in voice and at least one accompanying instrument (e.g., guitar, piano), and the ability to adapt music to diverse patient needs.Certification or eligibility for certification as a Music Therapist (e.g., MT-BC) and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Music Therapy or a closely related field.Experience providing therapeutic services in hospice, palliative care, long-term care, or a similar healthcare setting, with strong skills in patient assessment and treatment planning.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills, with the ability to build trust with patients, families, and an interdisciplinary care team.Strong documentation, time management, and organizational abilities, including proficiency with electronic health records and basic computer applications.Capacity to work sensitively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, maintaining professionalism, cultural humility, and emotional resilience in end-of-life care.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation if occasional home or facility visits are required within the Toledo area.
