Music Youth Educator

Job Description

EYL 365 Project is currently accepting applications for an Instrument Music Youth Educator for school programming at our DCPS Ward 7 & 8 partner programming sites. The Youth Educator must have previous experience teaching elementary and middle school students music, and be willing to use cooking utensils or everyday objects to explore sounds, build listening skills, and creativity. This can take the form of hip hop, house, classical, pop, jazz, and a variety of other styles. Additional experience with entrepreneurship, marketing and branding is also a plus! Hours can range between 10am - 12pm, 1 - 3pm and 4 - 8pm, Monday-Sunday. (Varies by the client.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and implement lesson plans for instrumental music classes that are hands-on including composing raps or songs, creating music videos, playing musical games, exploring different instruments, and even building their own instruments.
• Teach a variety of instruments including, but not limited to, standard music instruments but utilized homemade instruments, including household objects like washboards and jugs
• Provide individual and group instruction to students of varying skill levels
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve
• Collaborate with other music teachers and school administrators to develop music programs
• Encourage students to participate in musical performances and events
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices in instrumental music ed
• Monitors and documents student activities for the final class report
• Experience playing drums, guitar, or piano

Instructional Planning and Delivery

● Responsible for all curriculum and duties associated with comprehensive music offerings in ES, MS, and/or HS

● Should possess knowledge of music education

● Must be able to work in harmony with the fine and performing arts faculty, building a comprehensive and detailed curriculum to serve the needs of students and the community

● Willingness to begin development of elementary and middle school performance arts offerings

● Working knowledge of best practice strategies

● Ability to collect and analyze data to assess student achievement

● Ability to provide differentiated instruction for students

● Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff members, and students

● Ability to provide and maintain an orderly classroom environment

● Demonstrated Technical Skills

○ Keyboarding, internet, and email.

○ Experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel

○ Google applications including Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and Slides

○ Possess computer competency and familiarity with emerging technologies

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university

● Appropriate grade-level teacher certification is required; except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy

shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule

● Demonstrated commitment to young people’s learning success and achievement

● Demonstrated proficiency in a teaching capacity

● Evidence of successful experience in student and parent relations

● Submit to a criminal background check and be found without a record

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
