Musical Accompanist

Job Summary The Accompanist will provide piano accompaniment for choral groups and various programs and performances; assist in the instruction of vocal groups. Detailed Responsibilities • Accompany vocal and instrumental groups and soloists during classes, rehearsals and performances; • Transport to off-campus performances and special events; • Collaborate with conductor in teaching vocal groups; recognize musical difficulties and recommend adjustments; • Record accompaniment music for voice or choral students; • Maintain choir uniforms and related records; • Manage music library resources; check out materials; maintain related records; • Operate a computer to enter data and update records; • Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications • Associate degree in music with a major in piano and two years of piano accompaniment experience; • Kern Community College District Salary Schedules, CLASSIFIED, Range 41.0; • 40 hours per week, 12 months per year; • Piano skills; knowledge of musical styles, methods of musical articulation, basic principles and methods of instruction, basic record-keeping techniques, inventory management, operation of a computer to enter data and maintain records, interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; • Ability to play the piano with a high degree of skill, sight read music rapidly and accurately, arrange and improvise music, transpose, read and play multiple staves individually or together, interpret markings in a musical score, operate a computer to enter data and maintain records, understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
