Primary Responsibilities : • Maintain and execute curriculum as it relates to the Musical Theatre Graduation Performance Syllabus (MTP275) or the Musical Theatre AC Performance (MTP300) • Utilize and apply established AMDA Musical Theatre curriculum and terminology when rehearsing with students • Engage students in the developmental process, and build / cater the show to everyone’s unique strengths • Reflect professional industry standards in the rehearsal room • Create and maintain a student-centered environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking • Direct and / or choreograph a student-centered production which emphasizes the strengths of each individual • Evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters and grade student work • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics in both the LMS (Canvas) platform, communications, and in-person • Fulfill professional responsibilities of a part-time / temporary faculty member • Maintain accurate academic records • Utilize the Canvas platform to encourage student engagement and information • Consistent communication and accurate reporting to both students and supervisors • Contribute to the school community, including : • Committee Participation • Active Engagement in required trainings and initiatives • Viewing of student performances Uphold AMDA’s core values of equity and inclusion in all aspects of the production, including both casting and the development of the project, and a commitment to an environment of student safety and support Qualifications : • Directing and / or Choreographing musical theatre performances at a professional, conservatory, institution of secondary education and / or higher education setting at the undergraduate and graduate level • Master's degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree (required) in a related field; commensurate performance / professional experience will be considered • Preferred that candidates have relevant teaching experience in a higher education setting • Experience with Canvas LMS preferred • An appreciation for the traditions of a performing arts academic setting • Demonstrates leadership skills; style that emphasizes collaboration, teamwork, and facilitation • Demonstrates strong understanding of storytelling in the directing / staging / choreography of musical numbers • Demonstrated strong understanding of dramaturgy and dramatic structure when building a cohesive show • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches with the effective use of technology • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people • Have a commitment and sensitivity to, as well as an understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning and rehearsing styles preference will be given to instructors with recent / current performance credits • Experience with a variety of styles and periods is a plus • Experience with musical theatre structure, dramaturgy and development is a plus This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
