Musically Inclined

PIH Health Whittier, California

Volunteer Services is currently seeking adult and student volunteers. We currently have 3 categories of volunteers: High School (at least 16 years old and a Sophomore), College, and Adults (primarily not in school). When applying, please indicate which category you are.

The Music Enrichment program provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals who enjoy sharing their musical talents through instrumental music, by creating a calming atmosphere for hospital visitors, patients and staff. Volunteers are welcome to play our grand piano in the lobby or bring smaller instruments (wind or string) up to patient rooms and nursing floors.

Program Overview
The Music Enrichment program provides instrumental music to patients during room‑to‑room visits as part of addressing the whole health of the individual. The goal of this program is to lift the emotional spirits of the patient, improve morale, increase energy levels, and provide stress relief through music as a diversion technique. By volunteers providing music at the bedside of patients, it also has the potential to ease the patient's feelings of loneliness.

Shifts can be flexible from 2–4 hours per day. Auditions will be required before placement.
