The accompanist is not expected to choose the music nor to direct the choir. Essential Position Duties... The accompanist main role is to work with the cantor to lead the congregation in praise of God by helping them to sing the various parts of the Mass, hymns and chant. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated to organize and practice music for the Mass and to arrive 1 to 1 ½ hrs before Mass to practice with the cantor. • Prior experience and familiarity with providing music in a church setting; experience in Catholic Liturgy would be a plus.
