**Overview:** We are seeking a highly skilled Musician III to join the Hawai'i County Band in Hilo. The successful candidate will play a musical instrument and/or its related double in the band at public performances and participate in various events, including concerts, parades, and special engagements. This is an advanced level position requiring a high level of proficiency and the ability to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays. **Responsibilities:** • Plays all musical parts for a musical instrument and/or its related double in band performances and in accompaniment to featured singing, dancing, or instrumental solos • Performs occasional solos and ensembles within and in front of the band • Participates in concerts, parades, and other regular and special engagements of the band • Participates in full band rehearsals, sectionals, or small group rehearsals, including marching practice • Warms up, warms down, tunes up, sets up, and breaks down all equipment • Studies musical scores and memorizes parts • Cares for and maintains music folders in an orderly fashion • Transports personal instrument(s) and equipment to and from rehearsals; cares for and maintains instrument(s) and equipment • May perform other special assignments incidentally, i.e., section leader or featured soloist • Performs other related duties as assigned • *Qualifications:** • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and experience playing in a concert band or orchestra or in a musical group over a six year period • Must be able to play the assigned musical instrument(s) in the band at the level six proficiency with the expected degree of skill, technique, and interpretation, and the appropriate tone, rhythm, and intonation • Must be able to read music proficiently and memorize parts • Must understand and follow oral and written instructions • Must adapt and adjust individual performance to suit the needs of the group • Must establish effective working relationships with co-workers • *Benefits:** • Competitive compensation package • Flexible Working Arrangements: Options may include telecommuting, alternate work schedules (4-10) and flexible working hours • Vacation: Start accruing paid vacation time immediately upon hire - up to 21 days per year • Sick Leave: Start accruing paid sick leave time immediately upon hire - up to 21 days per year • Holidays: The County provides 13 paid holidays per year (plus General Election Day when applicable) • Training and Development: The County has a variety of training and development opportunities for employees • County Tuition Reimbursement Program: This scholarship program rewards employees who take the initiative to advance their education and learning • Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program: You may be eligible for this federal program which forgives portions of federal student loans for individuals working in public service • Retirement Plan: The Employees' Retirement System is a qualified defined benefit public pension plan that provides retirement, disability, survivor and other benefits to all eligible full-time and part-time county employees in the State of Hawaii as well as their beneficiaries • Deferred Compensation: Save additional money for retirement - this voluntary supplemental retirement savings plan allows for the investment of tax-deferred contributions • Flexible Spending Plan: Use pre-tax dollars to pay for qualified dependent care and/or medical expenses, as well as insurance premiums • Health Benefit Plans: The County of Hawai'i offers a variety of health benefit plans for eligible employees • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): This voluntary assistance program provides employees and their family members with free professional and confidential assistance in overcoming personal and work-related problems
