Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Demonstrates musical proficiency on appropriate instrument(s), using the inherent healing elements of music and sound to enhance the environment for patients at NGMC • Knows appropriate types of music for specific patient conditions, using the inherent healing elements of music and sound to enhance the environment for patients at NGMC • Is familiar with clinical deportment issues, palliative care, monitoring equipment, and legal issues related to providing the service of therapeutic music • Plays / sings music at the bedside or other clinical environment, working with patient care staff to identify those who may benefit from therapeutic music • Is proficient in his/her primary acoustic instrument • Is able to smoothly transition from familiar to unfamiliar music, improvising for extended periods of time as needed to meet patient's changing conditions and needs • If dependent on sheet music, is able to regularly observe and maintain focus on patient and monitor in order to recognize subtle changes in patient condition and response to LTM session; then modify LTM as needed to meet patient's current condition • Is able to prioritize and work independently with patients and families. • As possible, provides LTM sessions for patients within parameters of budget and schedule restrictions. • Maintains an open line of communication with other staff, volunteers, and families.
