Study Goal:

To understand how music practice and performance relate to everyday stress.

Study Procedures:

- Complete a short online survey

- Complete a brief phone interview about mental health and stress management

Participant Compensation:

- Participants will receive $10 for completing the interview

- Payment is sent via email within 4–6 weeks after your interview

You are eligible to participate in the study only if you

1. Are 18+

2. Live in the US

3. Are a Professional musician, defined as meeting at least two of the following in the past 12 months:

a. Earned at least $5,000 from music performance, recording, teaching, composing, or producing,

b. Averaged at least 2 paid music engagements per month,

c. Report that music is your primary occupation,

d. Are a member of a professional music organization or union

4. Have at least 8 years of experience on your primary instrument or with your voice

5. Are currently active in music practice and/or performance, defined as at least 6 hours/week of music activity averaged over the last 3 months. Music activity is defined as practice, rehearsal, performance, and/or composing/arranging, and

6. Your musical activity primarily reflects either improvisational or score-based performance.

You are not eligible to join the study if:

- Your primary musical activity involves DJing, production, or loop-based performances that mainly involve selecting or manipulating pre-recorded tracks rather than creating musical notes in real time.

- Your primary performances consist of sound bath or ambient formats that do not involve active real-time musical decision-making consistent with improvisational performance.
